” I am neither glaring nor opulent
I am not a shadow to be trampled upon
I am but only a reflection
An essence that stays to nurture”
Abha – She is a reflection of all that is around her, the world in its physical state as well as abstract.
What does she reflect?
A reflection is an image you can perceive.
She is a reflection of society and being so is not necessarily utopic and lustre. And how does society receive this? She is constrained by objectification; of being subject to the male gaze and its consternations. It is a blot upon her idea of freedom. Must she dress for your voyeuristic gratification? Must every action, thought, emotion be subject to your narrow judgement? Must you cage this beautiful bird and clip its wings so that it never experiences flight?
When I thought of making an editorial on Aabha, I could not think about anything better than a saree to capture the true essence.
I didn’t want her to be loud and overdressed, I want everyone to relate with the character and to feel that we have an Aabha in us.
When we were shooting for Aabha, we did not plan anything. All we wanted to do was to capture my interpretation of Aabha and I am so glad we connected.
I did not have to explain a lot to him. I just told him and he knew what I wanted and you all can see the results here. I am happy to announce one more addition to Vanillapoise, a brilliant photographer, Mr. Urvish Joshi. Read more about him in our Maker’s Corner.
