MONOCHROMATIC

This week consisted mostly of sketching, sketching and more sketching. I have been working on designing a traditional Navratri collection with a contemporary touch.

Navratri – Navratri, actually translated as ‘nine evenings’ is the most observed Hindu celebration dedicated to Goddess Durga symbolizing virtue and power or ‘shakti’. Navratri celebration joins ceremonial puja and fasting and is joined by radiant festivals for nine back to back days and evenings. Navratri in India takes after the lunar logbook and is praised in March/April as Chaitra Navratri and in September/October as Sharad Navratri.

Amid Navratri, individuals from towns and urban communities assemble to perform “puja” on little holy places speaking to various parts of Goddess Durga, including Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati. Droning of mantras and interpretations of bhajans and society tunes more often than not go with the puja customs for nine back to back days of Navratri.

(Navratri is an auspicious dance festival celebrated in India for nine nights in row). A day of running errands and working for the new collection is very tiring. To cheer myself up I took a break from my monotonous schedule and went about getting myself a new look. I paired this monochrome horizontal stripe dress  with coral peep toe sandals and to add that little bit of bling , I paired it with this beautiful chunky pair of earrings from Radhika Agrawal. To complete the look I got myself a black embellished clutch from Accessorize.

What is the easiest way to spice up a black & white

outfit? Some bright red lipstick teamed with  a dash from a vintage winged eyeliner.

NOTE: If you’re petite and crazy about stripes, avoid horizontal stripes, instead opt for vertical stripes to enhance the illusion of height. Wearing a monochromatic outfit is an effective way to get a slimmer and taller look. Vertical lines make short women look thinner and taller; horizontal lines do the opposite.

I would love to hear from you,  how would you style your monochrome outfit.
