Torna Fort Trek
Its also known for Prachandagad (Prachand means massive – huge) and its very large fort compared to other fort in Pune district.
And its very historical because was captured by Shivaji maharaj in 1643 at age of 16 , and formed the Maratha empire.
its 4607 ft above the sea level and 1403 meters in height.
It has some history, there is template at the entrance of the fort , The Menghai Devi temple.
In the 18th century, the Mughal empire briefly gained control of this fort after assassination of Shivaji Maharaj’s son Sambhaji.
Torna fort is 50km from Pune (SouthWest) in the Sahyadari Mountain range at the base village Velhe.
If you are in Pune then there are two ways to go this fort,One via Mumbai – Banglore highway(70kms) take right towards Nasrapur,
and second road is via Sihagad road via panset(50kms) ,If you love bike riding then take via Sihagad road which is really good which goes accros the Mountains but little risky in monsoon.
We went via Mumbai-Bangalore highway and taken right from Nasrapur road , the route passing from village and in the end of the monsoon season (October) it was totally amazing atmosphere so rounding by fog and flowers on both side of the road, see below pics taken by me.
Its 2 hours trek from base , you can park your bike or car by driving towards the fort, Its around 2kms from main highway.
We started at 9:30 and reached at top by 11:30 and got back by 1:30. Treking was really good and refreshing ,its medium difficult trek and its really good for begginers.
I am sharing all my pics of the trek. It was an amazing trek of the Torna, Please do comment and share with your friends & family.
Happy Travelling & Trekking 🙂
